Well apparently the District government is just giving it away! That's right, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities is gearing up for another grant season and are looking for talented artists and arts groups to apply! Applying is easier than you think and a wide variety of programs and projects qualify.

Bloomingdale Community Yard Sale!

On Saturday May 30th, from 8am - 2pm, Crispus Attucks Park will host the annual Bloomingdale Community Yard Sale - it's sure to be a great place to find just what you're looking for at amazing prices! If you're interested in selling, the registration fee is currently $25, and it increases to $35 on May 16th up through the day of the sale.

Forms are available on the park’s website www.crispusattuckspark.org or contact Tynesia at 703- 973- 5733 or tynesia27 @ aol.com. If you'd rather donate merchandise to the CADC's table, (100% of the proceeds from these sales will go to park maintenance and improvement projects), contact Andrea at 202-986-7680 or CADCyardsale @ att.net to donate merchandise.

Big Bear Cafe was chosen as one of 19 of this year's recipients of the "Mayor's Environmental Excellence Awards" - congratulations! According to the press release, “The Environmental Excellence Awards recognize the very best in sustainable commerce in the District of Columbia,” said Mayor Fenty. “Every day, the winners demonstrate that taking care of the environment makes good business sense.” And with items like Counter Culture coffee, compostable products, and energy efficient overhead fans, the staff at Big Bear has certainly earned this award. Way to go!

Crispus Attucks Park Work Day - This Saturday!

You know you need some fresh air on this beautiful weekend, right? Well join your fellow Bloomingdale residents in beautifying Crispus Attucks Park! Here's the info from John Corea, via the listserv:

Please come out for another “PARK WORK (and play) DAY!” in Crispus Attucks Park (enter through alley at First & U Streets NW)

THIS Saturday, April 25th between 9am & 1pm

Join your Neighbors and fellow Park Users in tackling:

* Weeding!
* Installing tree bags, planting, mulching
* More Weeding! [I sense a theme. -ed.]

We’ll provide tools, gloves, bottled water, and light snacks.

Have you made your 2009 donation to the park yet?

It costs $8000/year just to maintain the park (irrigation system maintenance, insurance, water, supplies, etc.)

If you can’t volunteer but can make a monetary contribution, please make check payable to CADC* and drop off at 63 U Street NW 20001, or call 202- 550- 2631 for more information.

Hello out there. It's been a long time since Bloomingdale Arts has had anything to share on the blog, but we're still here! The question is, is anybody else? There are a few of us who are still interested in creating some sort of artistic opportunity this spring for the neighborhood...but what should it be? Any and all thoughts, suggestions, wacky ideas, etc., are welcome. We'll check back in very soon...

Tables at the Bloomingdale Farmer's Market

Thanks to those who came out for last night's meeting at Windows Market! We had a very productive meeting and decided on taking two steps of action before the year's end:

Secure a table at the Bloomingdale Farmer's Market for November 16th and 23rd to get the word out about the group and
Obtain information about the decorated windows at the corner of Seaton Place and 1st Street to see if we could decorate them during the holiday season using the talents of our group

Great ideas! We'll be working with local groups to get information about both of those objectives. Anybody with any insider tips - please pass them along!
